Change in weather warning in Kerala; situation likely to worsen in three districts, red alert issued

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in various districts due to the possibility of extremely heavy rain in Kerala. Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki are on red alert. The possibility of extremely heavy rain has been predicted. The IMD defines extremely heavy rainfall as more than 204.4 millimetres of rain received within a 24-hour period.

07/08/2026: Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod

The IMD has predicted a possibility of very heavy rainfall in isolated places. The IMD defines very heavy rainfall as rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

08/08/2026: Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for these districts. Isolated heavy rainfall has been predicted in these areas. Heavy rainfall refers to rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.
