Drugs worth more than Rs 10 crore seized under Operation Toofan, Mohanlal to join as 'Toofan Warrior'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said that drugs worth more than Rs 10 crore have been seized so far in raids conducted as part of Operation Toofan. He said the government will implement a Multi-Digital Integration Project in coordination with central and state agencies to strengthen the fight against drug abuse and expand enforcement activities.

The minister said that actor Mohanlal has expressed his willingness to work as a Toofan Warrior. Apart from him, several other film personalities have also come forward to join the campaign against drug abuse. The Home Minister requested everyone to come forward and become Toofan Warriors. Chennithala was speaking at a press conference after an inter-agency coordination meeting held at the Police Headquarters with the participation of central agencies.

Fifteen days after the launch of Operation Toofan, a total of 2,575 cases have been registered and 2,778 people have been arrested. The authorities have seized 1,589 grams of MDMA, 146.490 kg of cannabis, 464.045 grams of hashish oil, 350.439 grams of brown sugar, 11 LSD stamps, and 141 cannabis plants from those arrested.

The minister said that the success of these operations also helped in the arrest of two foreign nationals from Delhi and Bengaluru in recent days. As part of efforts to prevent the spread of drugs, the police are focusing not only on arrests but also on awareness programmes. So far, 1,526 awareness classes and 138 counselling sessions have been conducted across various districts. The State Intelligence Department has also launched a new initiative called T-INT to stop the spread of drugs and identify and destroy their sources.

The minister said that the Operation Toofan campaign will continue through three phases- Toofan Strike, Toofan Warriors, and Toofan Care. He also announced that the 'One Million Toofan Goals' project has been started in association with the General Education Department.
