Heavy rains lashing capital city, warning of strong winds of up to 50 kmph

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are lashing the capital city as the monsoon has intensified. It has been raining continuously in the city since Monday morning. According to the latest radar image, there is a possibility of moderate/heavy rain and strong winds up to 50 kmph in Thiruvananthapuram city; moderate/heavy rain and strong winds up to 40 kmph in Thiruvananthapuram, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD).


An orange alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki and Malappuram for the next three hours. An orange alert has been issued for Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts today. The IMD defines extremely heavy rainfall as rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.
