THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Editor K. Sukumaran always stood for the upliftment of the oppressed, and it is heartening to see Kerala Kaumudi continuing forward with the same strength, said Minister K. Muraleedharan. He was inaugurating a memorial meeting organised by the Kerala Kaumudi Non-Journalists Association at the Kerala Kaumudi premises in Pettah.

The 45th death anniversary of editor K. Sukumaran was observed by paying tribute to his memory. Sukumaran had fought tirelessly for the protection of the rights and upliftment of marginalised communities. Commemorative programmes were organised by various progressive organisations at Kerala Kaumudi units across the state. People from different sections of society also offered floral tributes at his final resting place on the Kerala Kaumudi premises in Pettah.

Transport Minister C.P. John, the chief guest, recalled that K. Sukumaran had used his pen to strongly question the exclusion of backward communities from positions of power. MLA V. Muraleedharan said Sukumaran was a personality who had the courage to stand firm on his principles without being influenced by party politics. MLA C.K. Hareendran said Kerala Kaumudi’s contribution to spreading knowledge and education among a large section of society by following the editor’s path could never be forgotten.

MLA G.R. Anil presided over the function. Minister K. Muraleedharan distributed the Editor Memorial Award and Welfare Fund Award. Kerala Kaumudi Non-Journalists Association president V. Balagopal welcomed the gathering, while general secretary K.S. Sabu proposed the vote of thanks.
