CHERTHALA: The luxury vehicles seized by the police from Monson Mavunkal, who is currently in jail in connection with the high-profile antiquities and financial fraud case, have been sold at scrap value through a public auction. A total of six cars, including a luxury Porsche once used by Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor, and a caravan were cleared from the Cherthala police station premises.

The removal of the vehicles marks the culmination of a tender process that spanned over a year. Shanu Bhutto, representing Mattuppavil Enterprises based in Valiyamaram, Alappuzha, secured the vehicles in the auction. The police had originally seized Monson's fleet of cars in August 2020 following a complaint filed by a businessman from Mavelikara, an action that subsequently triggered the unravelling of his multi-crore fraud operations.

Monson’s modus operandi involved acquiring high-end luxury vehicles that had previously been owned and exchanged multiple times by film stars and other celebrities. He would then lease these premium cars to other firms and establishments. Following years of being parked at the police station compounded by legal and administrative delays, the vehicles were ultimately auctioned off as scrap.
