Rs 15,030 fine on Kerala Police; Corporation orders payment

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram Corporation has fined the Kerala Police Rs 15,030 for installing flex boards without permission in the city as part of the 44th Kerala Police Games and Athletics Meet. The fine was imposed on the state police chief for installing boards at PMG and Vazhuthacaud. Three flex boards put up in the city were also removed. The corporation secretary issued an order in this regard on the 15th. Police sources said the notice was handed over to the organisers of the event, directing them to take necessary action. The fine has to be paid in full to the corporation within seven days of receiving the notice, failing which further action will be taken, the notice said.

The corporation's revenue wing has also removed flex boards put up to publicise the short film festival and Operation Thoofan, and imposed fines after removing them. There have been allegations that the prescribed procedure was not followed while removing some of the boards. Under the rules, a notice has to be issued before unauthorised flex boards are removed. It has also been alleged that boards related to the short film festival were removed before the festival ended.

Earlier, the BJP was fined Rs 19.9 lakh for failing to remove boards installed from the airport to Putharikandam in connection with the Prime Minister's visit. The fine has not yet been paid.
