THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has revised its weather layout for Kerala, significantly expanding its heavy rainfall warnings across the state. In its latest update, weather officials upgraded the alert status to Orange for 11 districts, warning residents to prepare for isolated, very heavy downpours.
The high-priority alert now covers Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod. This marks a substantial escalation from the previous forecast, which had confined the Orange Alert to just six districts: Idukki, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
Meanwhile, a Yellow Alert remains in place for Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram, indicating likelihood of isolated heavy rainfall.
An Orange Alert signals isolated very heavy rainfall, whereas a Yellow Alert warns of isolated heavy downpours. Residents in low-lying and landslide-prone areas are advised to stay vigilant.
The IMD has also outlined an extended weekly forecast mapping out how these weather patterns will transition over the coming days:
