Rainy days ahead? Kerala faces more rain as Bay system strengthens

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rainfall is likely to intensify across Kerala in the coming days as a low-pressure area is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The state is likely to receive light to moderate rain, with isolated instances of heavy rainfall, from Saturday through September 23, according to the latest weather warning. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon began withdrawing from some parts of west Rajasthan on Saturday, two days later than normal, the IMD said.

A cyclonic circulation over the north Andaman Sea and adjoining areas is likely to intensify into a low-pressure area by Saturday evening. The system is then expected to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a well-marked low-pressure area over the central and east-central Bay of Bengal on September 21.
It is likely to intensify further into a deep depression over the central and western Bay of Bengal on September 22, according to the weather department.

The system is expected to continue moving west-northwestwards and reach the central and adjoining northwestern Bay of Bengal, close to the coasts of south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh, by the morning of September 23.
With thunderstorms also likely along with the rain, the IMD has advised the public to remain cautious.
