TV explosion triggers house fire in Kozhikode; walls develop cracks

PAYYOLI: An old television burst into smoke and flames before two loud explosions rocked a house in Thurayur on Sunday evening, leaving cracks in the walls and household belongings unusable.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. at the house of Meenakshi in Eruvottu Vayal, Payyoli Angadi. Meenakshi, who lives alone, had just switched on the old-model television when smoke began billowing from it.

She immediately switched it off and unplugged it but as she called out to her neighbours, two loud explosions occurred, and the fire spread. Smoke and flames filled the house, damaging its contents and leaving cracks in the walls.

Two fire and rescue units arrived at the scene, but local residents had already extinguished the fire by then. The cause of the incident remains unclear, police said.
