THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: If you are one of the thousands of women or transgender commuters traveling for free on KSRTC buses, here is a golden rule for your next journey: do not discard your 'Zero' ticket.
In an exciting turn of events, those seemingly worthless slips of paper might soon turn into your ticket to a major prize. The Transport Department is actively planning a massive lucky draw scheme based on the serial numbers of these complimentary tickets.
This unexpected move sheds light on a cryptic hint dropped by Transport Minister C.P. John during the recent inauguration of the 'Priyadarshini' free travel scheme, where he pointedly urged passengers to keep their tickets safe.
Turning expense into a Jackpot
While the travel is free for passengers, it isn't without cost to the state. Every single ticket issued incurs a printing and paper roll expense of roughly 13 paise. To offset this operational cost and transform it into a lucrative revenue stream, KSRTC is turning to a brilliant marketing strategy: Ticket-back advertising.
Under the proposed model, corporate sponsors will pay to print their advertisements on the reverse side of the Zero tickets. To maximise engagement, these very same advertisers will sponsor high-value prizes for the lucky draw.
By incentivising passengers to hold onto their tickets for the lottery, KSRTC ensures that these advertisements don't end up on the bus floor. Instead, they travel straight into the hands and homes of consumers, offering unprecedented visibility for brands.
What’s next?
KSRTC is moving swiftly to bring this initiative to life and will soon invite competitive tenders for the ticket advertising rights. The contract will be awarded to the highest bidder, paving the way for a win-win scenario.
So, the next time the conductor hands you a Zero ticket, tuck it safely into your purse. Your next bus ride might just change your fortune!
