Northern districts likely to receive heavy rainfall; orange alert issued in five districts tomorrow

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that rain will persist across the state, with heavy downpours predicted for the northern districts. An orange alert has been issued for Kannur and Kasaragod districts today. A yellow alert is in place today for Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts.

According to the IMD, a coastal low-pressure trough extending from the south Gujarat coast to the north Kerala coast persists at mean sea level. The weather system is expected to bring intermittent light to moderate rainfall across Kerala and Mahe from today until July 10. The department has also warned of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph, which could occasionally gust up to 60 kmph.
