Murder of six-year-old Nakshatra; accused father kills himself by jumping off train

SASTHAMCOTTA: Srimahesh (38), the accused in the case of killing his daughter with an axe in Mavelikkara, killed himself by leaping from the train at Sasthamcotta. He jumped from the train on his way back to Thiruvananthapuram Central Jail after being brought to the Alappuzha court. The incident happened at 2.50 pm.

He said he wanted to urinate and pushed two policemen out of his way to jump on the track. The body has been kept at the Sasthamcotta Taluk Hospital.

Srimahesh, father of Nakshatra (6) from Punnamoodu Aanakoottil, killed his daughter with an axe on the night of June 7. When Mahesh's mother Sunanda rushed in from the house next door after hearing the commotion, she saw Nakshatra lying on the sofa with slashes. He also attacked Sunanda who ran out making noise. The neighbors were also threatened and attacked with the axe.

After being arrested and remanded in the case, the accused tried to commit suicide by cutting his throat in Mavelikkara sub-jail. He was seriously injured and was admitted to Vandanam Medical College for treatment. Police filed a charge sheet before the Mavelikkara First Class Magistrate Court on the 78th day after the incident.
