THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala met Akhila and Athulya, the daughters of Sudhakaran and Sajitha, who were killed in the Nenmara double-murder case. The meeting took place at the residence of Palakkad DCC president A. Thankappan. Chennithala said that steps would be taken to provide a government job to Akhila, in accordance with the court’s judgment. He said the matter would be discussed with the Chief Minister before a decision was finalised.
“The government will ensure that Akhila gets a government job in accordance with the court’s judgment. The matter will be discussed with the Chief Minister and a decision will be taken. Considering the future of the children who have lost their parents’ protection, the government will take all necessary steps to facilitate employment as soon as possible. The police have been instructed to check on the children and ensure that they are safe,” Chennithala said.
On 27 January 2025, Sudhakaran, 56, and his mother, Lakshmi, 75, were hacked to death by Chenthamara at Thiruthampadam in Pothundi, Nenmara, in Palakkad district. Chenthamara was also the accused in the 2019 murder of Sudhakaran’s wife, Sajitha. He allegedly committed the double murder after being released on bail in that case.
The Palakkad Additional Sessions Court subsequently sentenced Chenthamara to death in the double-murder case. The court had also observed that the government had a responsibility to ensure the safety and rehabilitation of Sudhakaran’s daughters, who had lost their parents and grandmother and had been left without their immediate family support.
The two sisters have said that they are facing considerable difficulties while living with their elderly grandparents and that government employment is essential to securing their future.
