KOCHI: A traffic police officer was injured after a speeding private bus knocked him down near the Kerala High Court on Saturday evening. The injured officer has been identified as Sreedath, a Civil Police Officer who was on traffic duty at the time. The accident occurred around 7.30 pm when a private bus, approaching from the Menaka side at high speed and being driven recklessly, knocked him down while turning onto Banerji Road.
Sreedath is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Police have taken the bus named 'Mahatma' and its driver, Aneesh, a native of Kakkanad, into custody in connection with the incident.
The incident comes amid protests against the reckless speeding of private buses following the recent death of Akshara, an Infopark employee who was killed after being hit by a private bus at Kakkanad's IMG Junction a few days ago.
The latest accident occurred near the High Court itself, shortly after the Kerala High Court strongly criticised the reckless driving of private buses and directed the Kochi Corporation to take strict action against them.
