'Meppadi landslide is deeply tragic'; will stand in full support of govt, says Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan

MEPPADI: Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan has reacted to the landslide near Meenakshipalam in the Kalladi section of the Wayanad tunnel road construction project. In a Facebook post, he described the incident as extremely tragic and shocking. He also said the Opposition extends its full support to the efforts of the government and the Disaster Management Department.

'The disaster caused by the landslide in the Wayanad-Meppadi-Kalladi tunnel road construction area is deeply tragic and shocking. The immediate priority is to continue rescue operations and ensure emergency medical care. Urgent steps must be taken to rescue everyone trapped under the debris.

The Opposition stands in full support of the government and the Disaster Management Department in carrying out rescue and relief operations. I share the grief of the families who lost their loved ones in the tragedy.

Immediate financial assistance should be provided to the families of the victims. Those injured must be given free expert medical treatment and financial support by the government.

A serious investigation is also needed to determine whether there was any negligence or failure on the part of the authorities in taking the necessary preventive measures related to this incident,' Pinarayi Vijayan said.
