GURUVAYUR: The railways are revamping the power lines on the Guruvayur-Thrissur route to increase the speed of trains. The aim is to replace the existing tramway type system and set up a traditional system from Punkunnam to Guruvayur. A tender has been invited for an estimated cost of Rs 11.23 crore. The tenders should be submitted by July 13th. The construction period is one year.

The maximum speed on this 23-km-long route is 90 km/h. It presently takes about half an hour to complete the journey. Once the renovation is completed, the travel time will be significantly reduced.
