
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued an Orange Alert for four districts in Kerala, warning of the possibility of very heavy rainfall as monsoon activity intensifies across the state. The alert has been sounded for Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Kannur districts, where isolated areas are likely to receive exceptionally heavy rain. According to the IMD, very heavy rainfall refers to rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm within 24 hours. For tomorrow, an Orange Alert has also been issued for Ernakulam and Idukki districts.
Yellow Alert
The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for the following districts:
11/06/2026: Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kasaragod
12/06/2026: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur, Kannur, Kasaragod
13/06/2026: Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod
14/06/2026: Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram
15/06/2026: Alappuzha, Ernakulam
A Yellow Alert indicates the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated locations. The IMD defines heavy rainfall as rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours. Rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is also expected.
Authorities have advised people living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides, and flash floods to follow official instructions and move to safer locations if required.
