THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains in the state for five more days. An orange alert has been issued for Kannur and Kasaragod today and tomorrow. Very heavy rains with thunderstorms are predicted in these districts. Very heavy rains are expected to fall from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

The IMD has also advised those living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides and mountain floods to move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities. Due to the possibility of strong winds, those living in unsecured houses and those living in houses with weak roofs have also been warned to be especially careful.

There is a possibility of isolated heavy rains in the districts where a yellow alert has been issued. The IMD defines heavy rain as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain falls in 24 hours.
