Cockroach in AAP colours? CJP spokesperson's Rs 21,100 donation stirs political debate

NEW DELHI: Ashutosh Ranka, the current co-convener of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), is among those who have contributed to the Aam Aadmi Party. According to the Election Commission's contribution report, Ranka donated Rs 21,100 to the Aam Aadmi Party during the 2025-26 period, before joining the CJP.

The Aam Aadmi Party received contributions totalling Rs 12.10 crore in 2025-26; in the preceding year, this figure stood at Rs 38.10 crore. Contributions of Rs 5 crore each from the Prudent Electoral Trust and Trident Limited account for approximately 83 per cent of the party's total disclosed donations. Rajinder Gupta, Trident's owner and a former Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP, later joined the BJP.

Party Convener Arvind Kejriwal made three contributions of Rs 10,000 each. Former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and Punjab unit chief Aman Arora each contributed Rs 3,500 on 12 occasions. According to the Election Commission's contribution report, TDP received Rs 58.25 crore, and the YSR Congress Party received Rs 24.31 crore in donations.
