Rains to intensify in Kerala today; Holidays declared for 10 districts, PSC exams postponed

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rains in the state on Tuesday. An orange alert has been issued for 12 districts today. A holiday has also been declared for educational institutions in 10 districts in the wake of heavy rains to lash. The PSC exams scheduled for today have also been postponed.


The IMD has issued an orange alert for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. The possibility of very heavy rains has been predicted in isolated places. The IMD means that very heavy rains will fall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm in 24 hours. Thunderstorms are expected.


Educational institutions in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kasaragod have been declared holiday today. Today's PSC exams have also been postponed. The exams scheduled for August 5, 6 and 10 have also been postponed. The revised dates will be informed later.
