THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BJP has rejected reports claiming that it is at odds with NSS General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair. The party said it has never interfered in the internal affairs of the Nair Service Society (NSS) and will not do so in the future. It added that it holds both the NSS and its General Secretary in high regard as a leading Hindu community organisation and its respected leader.
BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar MLA said G. Sukumaran Nair had extended full support and assistance when he assumed charge as the party's state president in Kerala. He also said he shares a close personal relationship with the NSS General Secretary. As the ruling party at the Centre, the BJP approaches the NSS and its leadership with responsibility and respect, recognising the organisation's work for the welfare of the Nair community, he added.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar also said that the appointment of the Sabarimala Tantri (chief priest) is not a political issue. He noted that the BJP has limitations in commenting on the matter. If any BJP leader has made public remarks on the issue, they should be treated as personal opinions and not the party's official stand, he said.
Referring to the Sabarimala-related cases, Rajeev Chandrasekhar alleged that the Tantri, who has no administrative role at the temple, is facing legal proceedings while ministers who controlled the temple's administration remain outside the ambit of the case.
"The UDF government is protecting corrupt LDF leaders. Along with the devotee community, we will oppose such actions through democratic means. The BJP has always stood with devotees in protecting temple traditions and religious practices," the statement said.
