KALPETTA: It is learnt that, apart from MLA Vidya Balakrishnan, MPs Shafi Parambil and Dean Kuriakose also received phone calls allegedly offering them ministerial posts. The police have registered a case on the complaint of trying to cheat the congress leaders. The Wayanad cyber police have registered a case on the complaint filed by D S Rajkumar, private secretary of Priyanka Gandhi.
Elathur MLA Vidya Balakrishnan got a WhatsApp call from the scammer in Delhi, promising a ministerial berth for Rs 3 crore. Vidya got the call on July 6 by a caller from Priyanka Gandhi MP's office and introduced him as Rajkumar. He communicated in English. Rajkumar told Vidya that he had got the number from the district MP.
Vidya grew suspicious and immediately contacted Priyanka Gandhi’s office. She then lodged a complaint on July 11 as directed by the party. She then called the MP whose name was used as reference. The fraudsters called claiming to be from the party headquarters and also gave the numbers of two other MLAs. The fraudsters demanded various amounts from others. Vidya said that she is not revealing more details as it would affect the investigation.
