MALAPPURAM: The death toll is rising in the rain-related incidents across the state. A four-year-old boy died after being swept away by the current in the Neerad stream in Kondotty. Adam Ayman, son of Hameed and Nadeera, died in the incident. He accidentally fell into the water while walking along the bank of the stream. The boy was pulled out of the water soon, but his life could not be saved.
The body is kept at a private hospital in Kondotty and will be handed over to the family after a post-mortem. Meanwhile, an 11-year-old boy died after falling into a waterlogged area in Puthuppally, Kottayam. The boy was immediately taken to the hospital, but his life could not be saved.
Four people died in the rain-related incidents this morning. 24-year-old Josephine Johnny and her mother Regina died after their house collapsed in a landslide in Payyanithottam, Poonjar. Sumathi, a native of Kudayathur, died in a landslide in Adoormala, Idukki. Two people were rescued.
Prabhakaran Nair, a native of Vaikom, died when a landslide buried his relative’s house in Kolahalamedu, Idukki.
The traffic disrupted for over ten hours due to heavy rainfall and landslides on the Kottarakkara-Dindigul highway was resumed.
A man was rescued by locals after a landslide fell on his house in Chemmannu Elappara.
