Setback for ADGP Ajith Kumar again; govt’s clean chit to P Vijayan, Punyam Poonkavanam to continue

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Another setback for ADGP M R Ajith Kumar. The government has rejected the report filed by Ajith Kumar against ADGP P Vijayan, the nodal officer of Punyam Poonkavanam project implemented in Sabarimala. In the order giving a clean chit to P Vijayan, permission was also given to continue Punyam Poonkavanam, a project executed by the police in Sabarimala.

The project was formed by the police in 2011 with the aim of keeping areas like Erumeli, Sannidhanam, Pampa, Nilakkal, and Kananapatha clean. Along with the workers assigned for waste disposal, government employees, policemen, and Ayyappa Seva Sangham workers who come to work here also participated in the project and carried out the cleaning work in shifts.

The workers of the Sabarimala Sanitation Society formed under the leadership of the collector were also involved in this. The high court division bench had asked former ADGP M R Ajith Kumar, who was in charge of law and order, to investigate and submit a report on the complaint that irregularities were being committed under the guise of the project.

Ajith Kumar had submitted a report to the high court containing serious allegations against P Vijayan. Ajith Kumar, who was the Sabarimala Chief Coordinator, had also stopped the Punyam Poonkavanam. The high court then directed a government-level inquiry into the allegations against the high-ranking official. Based on this, the home secretary issued an order giving P Vijayan a clean chit. The order also states that the government accepted the explanation given by P Vijayan and found no irregularities.
