Strong winds, rain in coming hours in two districts, large waves likely

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain warning for various districts in the state. The IMD has informed that there is a possibility of moderate rain and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph at isolated places in Kannur and Kasaragod in the next three hours; light rain at isolated places in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kozhikode and Wayanad.


High wave alert

The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has informed that there is a possibility of high waves of 2.9 to 3.6 meters and sea erosion along the coasts of Malappuram (from Kadalundi city to Palapetty), Kozhikode (from Chombala AO to Ramanattukara), Kannur and Kasaragod (from Valapattanam to New Mahi and from Kunchathur to Kottakunnu) districts till 11.30 pm tonight.


Fishermen and coastal residents in these areas should exercise special caution.


Alert issued

1. As the sea is likely to become rough, stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities.
2. Taking small boats and yachts into the sea should be avoided during this time.
3. Landing fishing vessels in the sea during periods of high waves and rough seas is just as dangerous as launching them. Therefore, launching and landing them in the sea during periods of strong waves should be avoided.
