THRISSUR: A fire broke out at an under-construction building at Thrissur Medical College on Monday evening. The incident occurred in the Mother and Child block, with flames and thick smoke seen rising from the third floor. A major mishap was averted as the building was still under construction and was not being used to accommodate patients.
Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the incident. According to preliminary findings, the fire is believed to have started in an air-conditioning unit during welding work. The blaze reportedly spread to electrical wiring materials and other parts of the building.
Officials said the fire has now been brought under control.
