KANNUR: Baby Memorial Hospital issued an explanation regarding the death of a one-and-a-half-year-old boy who died after being administered anaesthesia. The hospital authorities expressed grief at the death and reiterated that all medical care was provided to the child in full compliance with the medical standards. The hospital authorities, noting that all available modern medical care had been provided to the child, explained that they would provide all possible support in the legal proceedings.

Devansh Shaurya, the son of Payyannur natives Suraj and Vijisha, died last night. The toddler was administered anaesthesia to get stitches for a cut on his lip and chin following a minor injury suffered while playing. After the anaesthesia, the toddler’s health condition became critical. The police registered a case against the hospital's doctor, Anjali Poduval, on a complaint filed by the family alleging medical malpractice. Suraj and Vijisha were blessed with Devansh after eight years of waiting.

The hospital authorities earlier denied medical error in the incident. The postmortem will be held at Pariyaram Medical College today. The child was admitted to Payyannur Baby Memorial Hospital last Sunday after falling while playing and sustaining minor injuries on the face.
