Toll in Kowdiar accident rises to two; Ashiq undergoing treatment succumbs to injuries

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ashiq Sanu (29), who was undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in the accident in Kowdiar last Friday, succumbed to it. Ashiq of Palakkad died Saturday morning at 6.30 while undergoing treatment at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. He was subjected to a surgery two days ago for the fractures he suffered. His internal organs were also seriously injured in the accident.

Ashiq and his wife met with an accident in Kowdiar. Ashiq's wife Naushija had died in the accident. The incident happened when the two were on their honeymoon. The couple got married on March 28. Naushija's relative Asma, who injured her leg in the accident, is undergoing treatment in the hospital.


The accident occurred after the car driven by Mohan Thomas of Kuravankonam, lost control of his vehicle after experiencing a sudden drop in blood pressure and ran onto the footpath. Seven including pedestrians Ashiq and Naushija, were injured in the accident. After hitting the pedestrians, the car went out on the road and crashed into scooters and two cars. The authorities have informed that the driving license of 77-year-old Mohan Thomas will be cancelled.
