Tragedy in Malappuram: Siblings die after drowning in pond

MANJERI: In a tragic incident, two young siblings died after drowning in a pond at Irivetti in Kavanur. The deceased have been identified as Afiya Fathima (8) and Afan Ahmed (6), children of Ali, a native of Puliyarakkunnu. They were students of Class 4 and Class 3 respectively at Vennakkode AUP School in Kavanur. According to reports, the children had gone to bathe in a pond near their house.

The incident took place at around 6 p.m on Thursday. After returning home from school and having food, the children went outside to play. When they did not return, family members began searching for them. During the search, their clothes were found near the pond. A search operation was then carried out in the water, and both children were pulled out and rushed to a hospital. However, doctors could not save them. It is suspected that the children may have entered the pond after lifting a protective net that had been installed over it. Their father, Ali, is originally from Gudalur and runs a business in Kavanur.
