THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police have arrested two people in connection with protests against the Chief Minister and ministers and incidents of violence in the capital. Those arrested are Youth Congress Nemom constituency general secretary Haider Ali and SFI activist Venu. The SFI alleged that Venu was injured in the lathi charge and that he was taken into custody after police entered the hostel. Cantonment police have registered a case against two DYFI activists for allegedly attacking police personnel outside the Secretariat on Thursday night.
Cases may also be registered against CPM leaders who allegedly threatened police officers. Police said those booked in connection with the violence were hiding in party offices and would be arrested. Cases have been registered against around 300 people.
Five Yuva Morcha activists were arrested for allegedly showing black flags at Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, two for allegedly obstructing Minister K.M. Shaji and one for allegedly attacking the DCC office. They were remanded on Friday.
A cyber investigation has begun into the incident in which threats were issued on social media along with photographs of Cantonment SI Gokul. Additional protection has been provided to the SI. The CPM had staged a protest outside the Kattakkada residence of Cantonment CI Satheesh the other day. Police protection has also been provided there. Cases have been registered against six DYFI activists for allegedly attacking police personnel.
Former minister V. Sivankutty and SFI leaders submitted a complaint to Ramesh Chennithala seeking action against police officers who allegedly assaulted SFI activists at the University Men's Hostel. They met Chennithala in person and handed over the complaint while he was undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
They alleged that two officers from Cantonment police station had acted with a retaliatory motive. They also handed over video footage of the lathi charge at the hostel.
