Bubble gum won’t come off your clothes? Try these simple tricks

There are plenty of products available in the market today to remove dirt and stains from clothes. But removing bubble gum stuck to fabric can be a different challenge altogether. Many people may have faced such a situation at some point, especially when it comes to children’s clothes, which are more likely to end up with gum stuck to them.

Some may even throw away such clothes or damage the fabric while trying to remove the gum. However, the next time bubble gum gets stuck to your clothes or household items, these simple tricks may help you remove it easily.

• Use ice cubes: Place a few ice cubes over the area where the bubble gum is stuck and leave them there for some time. Once the gum hardens, gently pull it away. It should come off more easily.
• Apply heat: Heat can also help loosen bubble gum. A hot vessel or an iron can be used for this. Place a piece of cardboard on a flat surface and put the affected fabric over it, with the side containing the gum touching the cardboard. Then apply heat using an iron or a hot vessel. The gum will loosen and stick to the cardboard, making it easier to remove from the fabric. Take care when using heat, particularly on delicate or heat-sensitive fabrics.
• Try vinegar: Soak the garment with the stuck bubble gum in well-heated vinegar for a short while. Once it has softened, use a brush to remove the gum.
• Use oil: Apply a generous amount of oil to the area where the gum is stuck and gently work it loose. Once the gum has been removed, wash the area with soap to get rid of the oil.
