NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke has accused the Narendra Modi government of using state machinery to protect Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that protesters and Opposition leaders are being targeted amid demonstrations in Delhi. Speaking at a press conference alongside All India Students’ Association (AISA) national president Neha Bora and actor-activist Prakash Raj, Dipke alleged that the government was using its machinery against its own citizens to shield the election commissioner.
“Young people in Delhi are fighting on the streets. They are being dragged along the streets. Neha, Ayesha, Vilaaj and Isha were all dragged away. For whose sake? To protect one Gyanesh Kumar. The government is using state machinery for Gyanesh. It is waging a war against its own citizens,” Dipke said.
Questioning the role of the Election Commission, he pointed to the approximately two-percentage-point difference between the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the INDIA bloc in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. “Why should people not suspect that Gyanesh Kumar helped the BJP?” he asked.
Dipke also alleged that the Election Commission had removed the names of 13 crore voters during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He claimed that people listed as deceased in the electoral rolls had been found alive during direct verification. He further referred to the alleged detention of former chief ministers Pinarayi Vijayan, Mamata Banerjee and Arvind Kejriwal, among others, and criticised restrictions imposed on transport services during protests. He also alleged that security personnel had been brought to Delhi from Naxal-affected areas to deal with demonstrators. “Whom are these measures intended to protect? Only Gyanesh Kumar,” he questioned.
Rejecting the slogan ‘One Nation, One Election’, Dipke alleged that the government's real agenda was ‘One Nation, One Party’. “Modi should declare an Emergency. Is the Prime Minister thinking about how this would be viewed internationally?” he asked.
