MUMBAI: The Mumbai police have asked Bollywood actor Imran Khan, nephew of Aamir Khan, to leave India. The action comes days after he participated in the protest organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). The notice issued has asked Imran Khan to leave the country by October 28.
The notice states that action will be taken under the relevant provisions of immigration law because Imran Khan, who is not an Indian citizen, participated in the protest. Imran Khan holds US citizenship. Instead of full Indian citizenship, he has an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card.
Imran Khan was among those who participated in the protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on October 10 at Mumbai's August Kranti Maidan. His partner and actress Lekha Washington, along with his relative Zayn Marie Khan, also took part in the protest. All three were detained by the police during the demonstration and later released.
Sharing a picture taken inside a police vehicle, Imran Khan wrote on social media, ‘Feels like I’m going for a drive.’ A video of the actor saying ‘Jai Hind’ to the police also went viral.
In another video, he said that after being detained, the police drove him around the city in a police van for approximately two hours before releasing him.
