MADURAI: Actress and BJP leader Namitha and her husband were allegedly stopped by security personnel when they visited the Madurai Meenakshi temple. The actress also alleged that the security personnel asked her to show a certificate proving that she is a Hindu. The incident happened this morning.

'This morning we came to visit the Meenakshi temple. We went to an official to get permission for VIP entry. He behaved in a very rude manner. We waited there for 20 minutes. Then I asked my husband to find out what was going on. They repeatedly asked us for our Hindu certificate. I have visited many temples in the country and I have never encountered such an experience," said Namitha.

Namitha also demanded that Devaswom Minister PK Shekhar Babu take strong action in the incident. Namitha got married in Tirupati. Namitha added that she and her husband are Hindus and have visited various temples across the country.

A senior security officer of the temple denied the allegations of the actress. Officials explained that they were stopped and asked for information because they were wearing a mask and this is a routine practice.
