Machiavellian politics in Madras! DMK-AIADMK alliance on cards, Vijay's CM dream in quagmire

CHENNAI: Arch rivals, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), are allegedly orchestrating moves to thwart the Chief Ministerial ambitions of TVK president Vijay.

The DMK and AIADMK are reportedly in talks for an alliance against Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam. There are indications that the leaders of both parties have started preliminary talks. The strategy of both parties is to keep TVK, which has presented an alternative to the Dravidian parties by winning as many as 108 seats, at bay. Meanwhile, it is reported that although talks have taken place, the alliance is not yet certain.

Vijay met the Governor today to stake a claim to form the government in the state, but did not get the support of 118 members required for a simple majority. A letter signed by 112 people was given to the Governor. Governor Rajendra Arlekar instructed the TVK chief to ensure the number of members required to prove the majority. Only the Congress is currently supporting the TVK. The Muslim League and the CPI are on the stand that they will stand with the DMK. The DMK-affiliated VCK party has refused to hold talks with the TVK. CPM leaders met MK Stalin and thanked him for the victory in two seats. Parties like PMK and DMDK have also not announced support for the TVK.
