NEW DELHI: The new change in the Indian Railways will badly affect lakhs of passengers in the country. From now on, it will not be possible to travel in sleeper and AC coaches with waiting list tickets. This change will be executed from May 1. The new decision is being implemented as part of improving the safety and travel experience of those traveling by train with confirmed tickets.
According to the new directive, passengers with waiting list tickets will not be allowed to travel in sleeper or AC coaches. They will be able to travel only in general coaches. Waiting list tickets booked through the IRCTC website will also be automatically cancelled. The railways took this decision after a large number of people with waiting list tickets are found traveling in sleeper and AC coaches, causing inconvenience to other passengers.
The TTE will impose a heavy fine on those traveling with waiting list tickets in violation of the new rule. Later, they will have to go to general coaches without being allowed to travel. North Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Captain Shashi Kiran said that this rule is being implemented to ensure that those with confirmed tickets do not face any difficulties during their journey.
In some trains, there have been situations where passengers arriving with waiting list tickets have encroached on the seats of confirmed passengers. Also, coaches are crowded due to those arriving with waiting list tickets. The new rule is being implemented to avoid this as well. Therefore, if there are people travelling in sleeper and AC coaches with waiting list tickets, it is better to avoid it.
