KOCHI: The police have registered a case against actress Shwetha Menon on a complaint of earning money through erotic films, following a court order. The case has been registered under Section 67 (A) of the IT Act. The FIR also states that obscene images were circulated through social media. A case has also been registered under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. The case has been registered by the Kochi Central Police.
Public activist Martin Menachery filed a complaint in the Ernakulam CJM court on July 31. The petition states that no action was taken against the actress despite an earlier complaint, which is why he is approaching the court. The police have registered a case as per the court's instructions. The complaint states that all the films in which Shwetha Menon has acted previously contain obscene scenes. The complaint includes a long list of films such as Rathinirvedam, Paleri Manikyam, which were censored and released, an advertisement for a contraceptive condom in which Shwetha had previously acted, and Kalimannu, which depicted a childbirth.
Shwetha Menon is contesting for the post of president of AMMA, the Malayalam film industry's Actors' association. There is also suspicion that there is some mystery surrounding the emergence of such a case at this time. It has to be checked how a complaint has now arisen about films that were released years ago.
