KOZHIKODE: The family of the young woman, charred to death in the car fire accident, raised serious allegations. Sona, of Kallikandiveetil in Paleri, Perambra, was eight months pregnant when she died in a car fire accident. Relatives raised doubts over the role of Sona's husband, Rajinlal. If it were a short circuit, the entire car would have burned down. However, not even the engine was affected in the fire accident. Sona's uncle, A.K. Sathyan, thinks that a deadly inflammable substance was left inside the car and that it was deliberately set on fire. Rajinlal's neighbours also raised the same suspicion.

“When the accident happened, Rajin tried to escape by jumping into the stream without trying to open the back door. He did not say that Sona was inside the car. Rajin's family members have not tried to attend Sona's post-mortem or inquire about information. A complaint will be filed with top police officials and the Women's Commission on Tuesday after the oath-taking ceremony,” said Sathyan.

Sathyan added that Rajinlal, who recently returned from the Gulf, kept a distance from Sona, showing a lack of interest. Sona even told her cousin that she suspects her husband of having another affair. Rajinlal was working in the Gulf when he met Sona through social media. This later bloomed into love and then marriage. While the wedding preparation was ongoing, Sona found out that Rajin was in a relationship with another woman. She attempted suicide by jumping in front of a train, but it was thwarted. Rajin then promised to marry Sona during the mediation session at the police station. However, both families opposed the idea, which led to Sona and Rajin registering their marriage in 2023.

The preliminary conclusion of forensics is that the cause of the car fire was not a short circuit. Normally, smoke comes from the engine area. But here, the smoke came from the rear of the car. There is no leak in the engine tank. The initial inspection did not find any explosives in the car. Officials said that they will re-inspect. Sona's postmortem report will be received the next day.
