KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has granted time till June 16 for the eviction of Dalit families in Malayidamthuruth. The action was taken on the plea filed by the government against the Perumbavoor court order to evict them by June 9. The high court also clarified that no more time can be given. As part of the settlement, discussions will be held in Ernakulam tomorrow under the leadership of the minister.

The Perumbavoor Munsif Court issued another order the other day while the government was trying to resolve the issue in Malayidamthuruth without resorting to force. The court had directed the Advocates Commission to complete the eviction and submit a report by June 9. The court also directed the police to provide adequate security. The government then approached the high court. The AG informed the court that efforts to resolve the issue were ongoing. The time was then extended until June 16.

The only formula before the government is to buy 35 cents of land near Malayidamthuruth and provide houses to the displaced families. The government has also invited the Kannat family, who own the land, for discussions. The families said that they are not ready to leave the land in Malayidamthuruth. They have also made it clear that they will not cooperate with any other action without conducting a resurvey. Although the government had earlier tried to relocate the residents to another place, they were not ready to accept it.
