
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that there is a possibility of rain in Kerala for the next five days. Orange and yellow alerts have been issued in various districts. Tomorrow, there is an orange alert in Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur. The day after tomorrow (12/06/2026), there is also an orange alert in Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam. The possibility of very heavy rain has been predicted in isolated places. The IMD defines very heavy rain as rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the following districts. Isolated heavy rain is predicted. The IMD defines heavy rain (ISOL H) as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is expected in 24 hours. Thunderstorms are expected. The IMD has informed that fishing should not be allowed off the Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts from today (10/06/2026) to June 12.
Public Alert
People living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides, and mountain floods should move to safer places as directed by the authorities.
Those living on riverbanks and downstream areas of dams should also anticipate the danger and move to safer places as instructed by the authorities.
People living in disaster-prone areas should definitely ensure that camps are open in their area and move there during the day. For this, local government and revenue authorities can be contacted.
Due to the possibility of strong winds, those living in unsecured houses and people living in houses with weak roofs should be especially cautious. Those who are aware of the danger should contact the authorities and move to safer places as part of safety precautions.

During heavy rains, it is not permissible to cross rivers, bathe in rivers or other water bodies, go fishing or for other purposes.
It is not permissible to climb over bridges above water bodies to view the view, take selfies or stand in groups.
Avoid unnecessary travel completely during heavy rains. Trips to waterfalls, water bodies and hilly areas should be avoided completely until the rain warning is lifted.
Exercise special caution when traveling on roads adjacent to water bodies. Exercise caution on roads under repair. The possibility of road accidents should be expected to increase in the event of heavy rains. Do not attempt to drive in areas where water bodies are overflowing.
Trees/posts/boards, walls, etc. that are in a dangerous condition in private and public places should be secured and trees should be pruned. Dangerous conditions should be brought to the attention of the authorities.
