KOTTAYAM: Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday alleged that Kerala's Governor and government have become subservient to the RSS. Speaking after inaugurating the Kerala NGO Union conference, Pinarayi claimed that the UDF government had signalled its political stance from the very beginning of its tenure.
"The UDF government began its term by fully reciting 'Vande Mataram'. The question is: whom were they trying to appease? Such actions indicate an acceptance of RSS policies," he said.
The Opposition Leader also criticised developments at Mahatma Gandhi University, alleging that appointments and decisions were being influenced by Sangh Parivar interests.
"A Sangh Parivar supporter was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University. The Governor is advancing the interests of the RSS and the Sangh Parivar. Why has the government not raised even a mild objection to this?" Pinarayi asked.
He further alleged that the university senate had been packed with individuals affiliated with the RSS.
"As many as 19 members of the senate are known RSS supporters," he claimed.
Turning his attention to national politics, Pinarayi accused the Congress of pursuing a political line that ultimately benefits the BJP and weakens opposition unity.
"Political parties must rise above their differences and unite to resist the BJP. However, the Congress has failed to do so. Its approach at the national level has weakened the collective opposition platform," he said.
Referring to political developments in Tamil Nadu, Pinarayi alleged that the Congress had prioritised power over principles.
"When offered two ministerial positions in Tamil Nadu, the Congress had no hesitation in changing its alliance. That was an act of betrayal. The Left, on the other hand, upheld political integrity," he added.
