KOZHIKODE: One more has been admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital with amoebic encephalitis. A 19-year-old boy from Feroke has been diagnosed with the disease. He is presently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit.

It is reported that the youth contracted the disease from Alappuzha. He had worked in Alappuzha. He was admitted to the hospital following high fever and headache. The disease was confirmed yesterday.

Two in Kozhikode have been confirmed to have amoebic encephalitis in the past week. A nine-year-old boy undergoing treatment at the medical college hospital has been confirmed with the disease. He is from Kottoor. He had bathed in the canal with his friends. It is believed that he may have contracted the disease from there.

The boy was admitted to the hospital after suffering headache and high fever. When the fever did not subside, he was sent to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for examination. Doctors said the child's health condition is satisfactory.

The health department has intensified its investigation to confirm whether the disease was contracted from the water in the canal. Samples of the water from the Kakkodi branch canal where the child bathed has been collected. Officials said that the source will be clear only after the results are obtained.
