KALPETTA: There is concern whether the Shigella outbreak in Wayanad's Koliyadi has entered the second phase. Earlier, only children and teachers at the school were showing symptoms. Now, the suspicion has been raised after some of the children's relatives also showed symptoms. The number of people who showed symptoms through contact with the children has reached 18. Their samples have been sent for testing. The results of the 18 children who were sent for testing earlier will be available soon.

Shigella has spread in Koliyadi Mar Baselios School. Prevention activities have begun here. Wells in the area are being chlorinated. There is also a move to send the water in the schools for testing again. 58 children are presently undergoing treatment with symptoms. So far, Shigella has been confirmed in three children.
