Justice Alexander Thomas appointed chairman of Human Rights Commission

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Acting Chief Justice of Kerala High Court Alexander Thomas will be appointed as the Chairman of the State Human Rights Commission. The decision was taken by a committee consisting of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan and Speaker AN Shamseer. Notification will be issued as soon as Governor Arif Muhammad Khan approves the recommendation.

Alexander Thomas, who was made a High Court judge in 2014, became the Acting Chief Justice in 2023. Since 2007, he has been the standing counsel of PSC, Railways, Dental Council of India and Medical Council of India.

In 1996 - 1998, he was the government pleader. He has also held the posts of Executive Chairman of Lakshadweep and Kerala Legal Services Authorities and Chairman of Kerala Judicial Academy.
