LONDON: It has been revealed Israel interfered in the elections in more than 30 countries including India. According to the report of an investigation conducted by a few international media, they manipulated the elections by spreading fake campaigns on social media through special software.
The manipulation was carried out by a group called 'Team Jorge' led by Tal Hanan (50), a former officer of the Israeli Special Forces. This information was leaked by three journalists who approached them pretending to be customers. They met Hanan between July and December 2022. The details were published by the British media ‘The Guardian’ the other day. 30 media organizations such as Le Monde and El Pais were also part of the investigation.
Tal Hanan, also known as 'Jorge', has been secretly interfering in elections in various parts of the world for over two decades. Their social media campaign challenges even the big tech platforms.
They will provide services from private companies to intelligence agencies during election campaigns. Thousands of people are behind ‘Team Jorge’. Disinformation, fraud and hacking are done through their thousands of fake accounts on social media including Twitter and Facebook.
Apart from elections, they have also intervened in commercial sectors. Apart from India, they are said to have intervened in countries like US, UK, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Mexico, Senegal and UAE. Hanan claims that 27 of the 33 presidential elections his team involved in were successful. Meanwhile, it has not been confirmed whether all his revelations are true.
'Forbidden Stories', a French NGO that works to follow up on investigations by journalists who have been killed, jailed or silenced, was also part of the investigation. They say that the activities of journalist Gauri Lankesh, who was killed in Bengaluru in 2017, inspired their work.
