'Will never forget': US Marks 25th Anniversary of 9/11 terrorist attacks

WASHINGTON: The United States observed the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on Friday. U.S. President Donald Trump stated that America would 'never ever forget the victims of the attack', and he said the ongoing fight against terrorism is being waged for their sake.

Trump was speaking at a ceremony held yesterday at the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial in Virginia. As in previous years, he did not attend the commemoration ceremony in New York City. Vice President J.D. Vance and former presidents, including Joe Biden, attended the event in New York City.

It was on September 11, 2001, that Al-Qaeda terrorists launched a surprise attack on the U.S. using hijacked passenger planes. Two planes crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre in New York City, while a third struck the Pentagon, the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defence. Another plane crashed in Pennsylvania. A total of 2,977 people were killed in the attacks, along with the 19 terrorists on board the planes. To date, the remains of only 1,878 victims have been identified.
