THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Additional SI Girish Babu of Kochi, who faced departmental action 10 times and was remanded three times, has been dismissed from service. The action was taken in accordance with Section 86 of the Police Act, which allows for the dismissal of people who consistently commit serious offences.

Following the publication of a report and a series by Kerala Kaumudi regarding the troublesome officers in the state police force, the Chief Minister had given strict instructions to the DGP to fire the criminals in the force.

Five police officers who were found guilty of sabotaging the investigation and harassing women were already fired. Six people, including two DySPs, have been suspended.

Girish, who was named accused in three criminal cases, had been dismissed in 2022. Later, ADGP Vijay Sakhare reinstated him after considering the appeal filed by Girish. The DGP issued a notice to dismiss him again after he was again accused in 3 criminal cases and was suspended within a month.
