KOCHI: The private bus owners in the state have decided to go on an indefinite strike demanding a hike in the bus fare of the students. The decision was taken at the meeting of the joint strike committee of bus owners in Ernakulam. Office-bearers of the joint strike committee said that about 7,500 buses are operating in the state under the organization and 90 percent of these buses will be part of the strike.

The joint strike committee is putting forward demands such as the implementation of Justice Ramachandran Commission's report related to student concession charges, increasing the minimum charge for students to Rs.5, allowing limited-stop buses to continue, and maintaining the current bus permits.
