THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI veteran C DIvakaran has alleged that LDF stopped the 'solar agitation' against the then UDF govt by laying siege to the secretariat on mutual understanding. Speaking to the media, he said that Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, the former home minister acted as the middleman in the issue. After this, CPM and Congress came to the fore rejecting Divakaran's claims.
He also speaks about this in his recently published autobiography.
Translation from Divakaran's autobiography-"The protesters were pumped up. The government declared holiday for the secretariat in advance. They also requested the Centre to provide military assistance. When Army arrived at Thampanoor Railway Station, the people were also excited. LDF's national leaders also came to meet the protesters at the secretariat. The police and Army stood as meagre spectators. The governance came to a standstill. Suddenly, I got a message to report to the AKG Centre. When I reached there, I saw Pinarayi Vijayan, Panniyan Raveendran, Vaikom Vishwan and Ismail waiting for me. 'Let's stop this protest for now. The government has agreed to do a probe with the High Court judge'. I stepped out of AKG Centre. I am not writing about the happening towards the end of the protest. Laying siege to secretariat will be a glorious experience in the life of VS".
