THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Guruvayur Municipal Secretary has issued an order giving officials the responsibility of front yard meetings to recruit people for the Navakerala Sadas, which has become controversial. Although the officials are working on the organization of the Navakerala Sadas, this is the first time that the order has been issued to go to the houses and gather people. Till now the party members were in charge of this in centres where the sadas was held.
Secretary Abhilash's order is based on the decision of the municipal welcome committee. The municipal limits were divided into 50 houses and officials such as clerk, overseer, bill collector, revenue inspector, health inspector, senior clerk, assistant engineer and typist were given the responsibility. The officials have been appointed as booth level conveners for the Guruvayur constituency program to be held at Chavakkad Koottungal Square tomorrow (December 4).
Local party members have been appointed as booth level workers for 50 houses each. Front yard meetings should be organized in coordination with them. When the Chief Minister and Ministers arrive, every official must compulsorily make sure that at least one person from each of the 50 houses in their area participates in the program. The move is to bring 2000 people from the municipal area which is divided into 40 booths.
Didn't object because of fear of transfer
Although the officials resent the Secretary's decision, they did not oppose it because a transfer is certain if they do. On October 30, four panchayat secretaries who did not cooperate with the organizing committee meetings of Navakerala Sadas were transferred. Kottayam Puthuppally, Palakkad Parudur, Anakkara and Kozhikode Thiruvallur panchayat secretaries were transferred to Idukki and Kasaragod.
